Fishing in the credit for trout... Tips?

Hey Guys
Super newbie to fishing, straight garbage at it but learning.
I have a pretty basic toolkit for this, at the moment. Was trying a few spinners the other day.
I don't know how to sort out how much weight/float to use in a fast moving river like the credit.
If anyone has some advice for this newbie, super appreciated.
