How do I deal with so much algae?

Id really love to get a hang of fishing this pond next to my apartment. I know theres bangers and people sometimes fish by going out on the spillway damn part of it, but I'd love to get a hang of fishing moew of it. It just feels like its so much even a perfectly smooth tx rig with the smallest hooks I can manage can catch nothing but a load of algae every cast.
