Summer of last year I got into fishing. Started out knowing absolutely nothing and had a terrible time but by the end of my first season I hadn’t caught nothing but learned lots about knot tying and rods and lures, skipped out on ice fishing season and started this years season a few weeks ago.
So far I still have not caught a fish but swear I’m getting close. Last time I was out at the lake I had perch chasing me in but not going for my lure(black and orange panther martin). I’m sure it’s a technique issue but I’d really like to catch something soon. Here is what I have to work with and what species are around me:
Locations-dozens of lakes and one huge river within an hour of my house(I am also limited to shore only with no boat)
Species-lake trout, pike, burbots, perch, walleye, gold eye, sturgeon, various suckers, one spot with largemouth but it’s a 7 hour drive away.
My gear-3 spinning reels, one medium light, medium, and medium heavy, all but the light are running braid with the light running fluorocarbon. Tackle is a variety of spinners, cranks, jigs, spoons, imitation maggots and worms, pre-made jigs, and some pickerel rigs.
So with lake fishing I’m only limited to shallow waters and with the river I can get into some deeper spots as there are some steep drop offs near the shore. Lakes are also tough as most of the shoreline in all these lakes are private property as they all have lake side cabins surrounding them. Looking for all the advice I can get to Catch my first!
