I apologize if this is an off-the-mark question but the terminology gets confusing sometimes. Getting into fishing off piers at the Jersey shore, and interested of jigging vertically off of them. However, when looking up "Jigging Rods" they are all rating for very high line and lure weights (4-7, 6-10 etc). This seem to be in direct contrast to much information I've seen that talks about Jigging off a pier with 1/4-3/4 ounce jigs. Are these "Jigging Rods" meant for large deep water fish? What would be a good setup for a jigging rod off a pier? Is the heavier rod a better option anyway due to the potential structure and fighting under the pier? Thank you!
