New angler here. Been roughly fishing for 2 months every week, I'm addicted!
Last week I caught something big, probably a ray or a shark at the pier. It was pulling line like no other! I brought it close to the pier and once I thought it was coming up it dived hard under the pier and my rod was bending like crazy. I felt like if I loosened the drag it woulda went further under the pier and plus it was probably the biggest fish that I've ever hooked and didn't want to give up. I decided that I was going to pull it up and force it to the front of the pier and then; BAM, my rod broke in 3 parts.
I was hoping to see if anyone had any advice besides cutting the line because honestly I had no idea what to do at that point. Any advice is appreciated!
My set up was a 9 foot medium heavy penn battle 3 combo. Reel is 6000.
In case you were wondering, the shop I bought the rod and reel replaced it free.
