This is a picture of my kid a few years ago, but I was thinking has anyone helped a kid they didn’t know catch a fish or with fishing in some way? I used to fish this same pier for whitefish a lot. It’s one of those fisheries where you either knew what you were doing and caught fish or you didn’t and could struggle. I had this fishery down pretty good. Sometimes the fishing was really good, and most people caught at least some fish and other times you better be doing it right or you weren’t catching anything while some people were doing quite well.
Anyway, I was thinking of one particular morning me and a buddy were catching some nice fish when nobody else was. There were only a few other people fishing, but literally no one else was catching but is. There were a couple guys standing just down from me with a boy about 10. I hooked a fish and asked the boy if he wanted to reel it in. He slowly walked over and reeled it in. I netted it and he turned to walk away and I asked him if he was going to take his fish. I said you caught it, it’s yours. We were in no danger of getting our limit that morning either. So he took the fish and walked over and they took his picture and put it in a bucket. Soon I look over, and the boy is taking pictures of it in the bucket with a phone. Pretty soon, one of my rod tips started bouncing so I asked him if he wanted to catch that fish. This time he RAN! It just felt so good to make that kids day.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I absolutely love seeing kids fishing. It absolutely made my day to make his, and I hope I get to to do something like that for a kid again.
