Husband Works with Homeowner… Ethics of Reaching Out? Creeptastic? (No Existing Relationship)
Post Body

EDIT: Yeah, the more I think about it, the more this feels way creepy and kind of intrusive. We’ll opt to send a letter with our offer.

Hi all! As the title indicates, we’ve discovered that my husband works with the owner of our absolute dream home.

We made this discovery from the listing photos where there was company swag on the table. After checking out the auditor’s site to verify taxes, we looked at the owner’s name, husband typed it into Teams, and lo and behold, owner indeed works at the same company and likely has mutual colleagues.

The house is not due to hit the market until 2/3, and we’re assuming an offer will be accepted by end of weekend.

What are your all’s thoughts on husband sending an email to the owner at work? Creepy? Will it piss off our realtor?

Something like the below (not asking any favors directly but opening the conversation):

“This is going to seem random, but my wife and I are searching for a home, and in the process came across (address), and immediately fell in love.

I noticed (company) swag in one of the listing photos and was tickled to think that a fellow (company-er) is selling this dream home.

After verifying the home’s tax information on the auditor website, I did a quick Teams search - hope you don’t mind - and just wanted to express how beautifully curated the home is. It looks like somewhere perfect to raise a family.

We will be there Saturday for a tour and can’t wait. Best of luck this weekend!”
