I’m a newbie and have got a question

My husband and I moved into our home just over 1-1/2 years ago. We have never used this fireplace, nor ever intend to. I don’t like that insulation shows at the bottom and there is cold air that comes from underneath. I was wondering if this insert is removable? Can it be removed ourselves, or who would do it? Is the cold air a concern? Obviously it’s outside air, but how do we fix that?
