I’ve had a lot of lucky breaks. But also my fair share of struggle. Here’s a list
Lucky breaks: getting a job that pays 160k straight out of college
Living at home rent free
Doubling my stock portfolio this year (I bought cruise and airlines in March)
Struggle: I have bipolar disorder. I’ve been hospitalized 3 times in the last 3 years. I’ve tried over 20 different medications (I feel like a medical pincousion) and wrangled quite seriously with suicide. All these hospitalizations and recovery times amounts to about a year out of the last 2.5 years. I’m 16 months without hospitalization or a major episode. I’m hopeful that I’ve found the right medication finally
My job is no walk in the park. It’s union construction. I work 12 hour days every day with 3 hours commute time per day. My total time dedicated to work each week is 75 hours. I leave the house at 4am and get home around 7pm. My job involved working with heavy and awkward things at heights in A big city. No way to wake up like balancing a 300lb object 70 feet off the ground with no harness. I work damn hard for my money My weekly paycheck looks like this (40hours*$45= 1800 overtime 20 hours * 67.5= 1350. Total 3150)
What’s next: once coronavirus calms down I’ll be liquidating everything and buying real estate for student housing. I’ll be co-signing with my dad because of my spotty work history. This should buy me 40 bed rooms at a 25% down payment. Each bedroom rents for 450/mo. 216k gross rents per year. Hopefully that brings me to full fire. I’ll update next year, but I’m hopeful that the end of selling my time and body for money is coming.
In addition to the figures above I also have a small vested pension (200/mo) and a small 401k(8k) and a car(7k)
Most people in my shoes are on disability. I’ve decided to fight tooth and nail for as long as I can till I don’t have to anymore
