I know this is a question that’s so broad it’s almost impossible to answer but your totally unbiased opinion, what would you say is the perfect career to be FI?

The reason I ask is because I am a recently single(divorced) man in his early 30s, who is going to back to school and being paid for it (Thank you Navy & GI Bill).

I have pretty much held off on creating any type of retirement or investment account for the past 2 years because I knew I wanted to get out of my marriage and I didn’t want to risk losing anything that was rightfully mine. I also lost almost 80% of what was in my checking and savings account. I went from having around $24,000 in my checking and savings to having just under $5,000 leftover.

I have been contributing 5% into a Roth TSP through the Navy in my 3.5 years of being in. Other than that, I have nothing else.

What would you say is the best subject to major in, and the best career to shoot for?

I already have a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts (I know), and I am not opposed to looking into other schooling such as a trade school.

I guess what I’m basically asking here is, if you were in my shoes, where would you go from here?
