How common is it in the FIRE community or younger generations to forgo having children to FIRE early? Is it socially acceptable to consider these days?
My wife and I FIREd in our late 40s and the hard truth is it would not have happened if we had children as originally planned (health issues prevented it) and which family/friends created a lot of pressure to do. Zero regrets things turned out as it did, it sure made a massive difference financially. Another side effect of no kids was the ability to invest time in work/promotions to increase earnings in a way peers with families could not do.
However, if we had planned this and told friends/parents/in-laws 20 years ago it was our plan it would have been poorly received at best. Wondering if the same is true today.
This is a really pointless question. What the hell do you care what others think? If you're childfree and happy so be it
