While trying to access the router configuration page (at http://192.168.1.1) in order to change some wifi settings, I realized that I didn't have the password. The username is "admin," and on past routers the password has always been "password," but that wasn't working. So, I found a guide online that told me to reset the router in order to reset the password. Seemed pretty logical.
I did that (and luckily my computer had memorized the password for the default wifi network so I was able to auto-connect and get online), but when I tried to log into the router again it told me that the password had been been reset to the default password, which was supposed to be printed on a sticker on my router.
Well, I have no sticker on my router. I see where the sticker used to be because it's sticky, but there's no sticker there now. I checked in my closet (where the router is) and the sticker is 100% not in there either. I never touched the router; the installation guy hooked it up himself and it's been sitting in my closet ever since. So, I'm left to assume that either the router didn't come with a sticker (in which case how would he have set it up?) or he took it off. Would there be any reason for him to do that?
Also, I called customer service and they said that there was no way for them to reset the password on my router, so they're sending me a new one lol. Seems like a very inefficient system to me...
