"Waters" Plural indicates a spring

WWWH is Warm Spring creek (Water is actually warm) at the Wind river (cold) in Dubois, WY (Dubois is French for wood) . Dubois is Between Lander and Yellowstone.

The canyon has to have the same name as the water

You have to drive to a place where you can access the canyon

Enter downstream of the extinct geyser where the terrain will allow. There is a trail that takes you upstream to directly below the extinct geyser. The trail ends and you have to "Put in" the creek directly below the geyser.

From there it's "No place for the Meek" since you have to walk in the middle of the creek. Fenn recommended waders with carpeted feet to Jenny Kyle of Mysterious writings.

About 200 meters upstream the Saddle Horse Draw comes in from the left. On a team of horses, the Nigh horse is the one on the left. "The End is ever drawing Nigh"

There'll be no paddle up your creek. One of the definitions of paddle is to "walk in a stream" So stop walking upstream and turn toward "Heavy loads and water high" ) which is the Tie flume above you that carried railroad ties down to the river. "Loads" is material moved by water (This would have still been in operation when Fenn visited as a kid.)

When you depart the creek toward the tie flume you see a large formation of orange rock behind it which makes an excellent blaze.

I looked quickly down and there was a split boulder covered in a black Lichen that looked like tar. Someone had stacked a cairn of three stones on top of it. (In masonry a split block is referred to as a "Scant")

But alas no box anywhere in the vicinity. I suspect that the finder entered the canyon at Dunoir and was able to find the box.

The famous drawing in "My War For Me" is a perfect match to the terrain and the Dubois airport runway is exactly where it should be for the jet depicted departing.

I will be surprised if this is not the right canyon.
