Post Body

Ive used Ubuntu MATE for four years, but it broke on me and I was unable to fix it so ive been stuck using Windows for two years since that.

Ready to try Linux again. I will be predominantly using it for my daily computer needs, as well as playing videos games, predominantly through WINE.

I want MATE as a DE.

I don't want anything based on Arch.

When something breaks, I'll be turning to the internet for help, so ideally a distro that I'd be able to find help when something goes wrong.

I have slow bandwidth, only a couple Mbps a second, and so I wouldn't want something that tries to update and download packages and YouTube is buffering for me. I want something that will receive kernel updates faster than Debian does at least, so that the GPU can receive updates.

I want a distro that will work for the next decade, and not create problems over time for whatever reason, especially when running updates. I don't want a distro that might break on me again, losing all my saved games and browser history and forcing me back to Windows.

I'm most interested in GeckoLinux (based on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed) and the Fedora MATE spin. I know people will recommend Mint to me; I seem to recall issues with that distro but I can't recall what they are.
