Need advice on my *suddenly territorial* male zebra finch!
Post Body

Hi everyone! So I need some advice regarding my couple of zebra finches again.

A little background: At the moment I have a male (Freddy) and a female (Donna) zebra finches in this cage . They have a lot of perches and fake plants and enough feeders for more than the two of them. I also provide fresh vegetables everyday and boiled egg from time to time (that they don't care much about) and cuttle bones. They were doing fine until a week ago when Freddy started plucking a lot of his own feathers, and I figured he wanted to nest. I gave them a nest and nesting materials and he immediately started to work on it (and stopped with the plucking). Eventually he built a very impressive nest and Donna seemed very pleased about it. She laid 3 eggs and they slept in it and looked happy.

Thing is, today Freddy took over the nest, he wouldn't let Donna anywhere near it and if she was in his sight he would straight up attack her, which is totally out of character. He was always very submissive towards Donna. Donna was confined to the grown, couldn't even go to the perch or the feeder without being jammed by Freddy. They both looked extremely stressed so I decided to put the divider on the cage just to be safe. Donna doesn't look hurt , just very stressed. They are now eating and look a bit calmer (the nest is in Donna's side).

I'm just at lost on what to do, should I take the nest out? Since it looks like it was what triggered all this mess? Should I keep them separated? I can't find any information about this behavior online ...

I would really appreciate some advice on this, thank you all!

Edit: grammar
