Single Male in NYC at 37
I want some honest evaluation here โ I moved to the US 14 years ago. Single male at the age of 37, here is my situation & what I have accumulated so far in NYC:
Annual salary: $113K plus a few thousands of bonus. I only made it to the 6 digit salary about 3 years ago (Prior to that I was making ~70-80K a year for about 6 years due to my work visa/ green card sponsorship). I have been trying to max out IRA and put toward 401K as much as possible (13% contribution plus employer match) since 2020..
Rent: $1900. Iโve been looking to own a co-op here in NYC. I have another $60-80K in my home country that can be at my disposal for down pay.
Asset:
Cash: $10K
Brokerage accounts: $17K at $10K loss.
Roth IRA: $33K
401K: $175K
Total: $235K
No credit card debit, no car payment, I do help with my family with a monthly allowance ~$700.
But I really feel I need to do more to increase my net worth because this number seems pretty low compared with peers at my age. I donโt plan to get married/ have a kid in the foreseeable future but the eventual goal is to have enough to support myself and younger brother who has disabilities. Should I even consider a second job over the weekend or am I overthinking and I should be ok as long as I stick with my current contribution?
Thanks all
