I am self employed and am over the income limit to traditionally contribute to a roth. I was planning to do the backdoor roth conversion as i have already contributed 6.5k to the traditional ira and am planning to make the conversion to a backdoor roth.
Where it gets confusing is that I currently have a SEP that I funded last tax year and i was told due to the pro-rata rule i can not do the backdoor conversion with a SEP and instead I should transfer the sep into a solo 401k then i should be elible to do the conversion of the 6.5k into a backdoor roth.
Can anyone confirm if this is correct? I am doing everything with vanguard if that makes a difference? Can i also make a roth contribution in the solo 401k after doing the backdoor roth? All this is new stuff to me. I appreciate all the help!
