Is this a dangerous move?
I currently work in the finance department of a global company on the Treasury team. Previously worked on the AR team. I'm coming towards the end of my AAT Level 4 so I'll be a qualified accountant. My current thoughts are to go on to complete ACCA and become Chartered then work as a Financial Accountant in industry.
I'm finding at the moment that I'm feeling quite pigeonholed in my current role. The downside of it being a global company is that I don't get to oversee everything in the finance department and everywhere else and gain a broad understanding of how everything works. But you obviously get the benefits of security, better wages and other perks.
Im starting to feel like I would feel a lot more job satisfaction of quickly working up to the head of a small finance team in a small company so that I could learn a lot more, have full control of everything and some level of Importance and feel like I can help build the company from the bottom.
I want to feel like something is mine and I feel bored where I currently am as a small cog in a big machine. I've also got thought about maybe starting my own business somewhere down the line.
So tldr I'm struggling to decide whether to stay comfortable in my current role and then maybe eventually work my way up to a high position but still be a small part of a big machine or move to a smaller company to be a big player and help build it from the bottom up and subsequently learn a lot more.
