Hey fellow Redditors,
I'm reaching out for advice and support as I navigate a significant career transition. After 5 years of working as a UX designer, I've decided to pivot into the finance industry.
I've been fascinated by finance for a while now, and I'm excited to explore this new career path.
However, I'm facing some challenges. Despite having a solid work experience and transferable skills (e.g., analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication), I'm finding it tough to land a job in finance.
I've been applying to various roles, from financial analyst to investment banking positions, like at Fidelity as a “finance services rep” but I'm not getting much traction. I've tailored my resume and cover letter to highlight my relevant skills, but I'm starting to feel frustrated and uncertain about my career prospects.
So, I'm turning to the Reddit community for advice and support. Has anyone else made a similar career transition? What were some of the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Specifically, I'd love to hear from people who have:
- Transitioned from a non-finance background into finance
- Successfully navigated the job market with limited finance experience
- Found ways to leverage transferable skills in a new industry
Any advice, words of encouragement, or cautionary tales would be greatly appreciated. I'm eager to learn from your experiences and gain a fresh perspective on my career transition.
Thanks in advance for your help and support!
I'm open to exploring various roles within finance, so feel free to suggest potential career paths or job opportunities that might be a good fit for someone with my background and skills. Also I am in desperate need for a job, I’m moving back home to Sacramento in January.
