Post Body

For context, I am entering my sophomore year of undergrad at a top15 public university, top40 overall. My ideal career at the moment is something like FP&A, budget management, or internal accounting. I want to assist in managing the funds of a company or other organization. I am currently majoring in finance, with a minor in accounting, but I am wondering if I should focus more heavily on accounting early in my career. Should I focus on building up a technical accounting skillset by doing a double major or simply pursuing an Accounting bachelor's degree and a Master of Accountancy/CPA after my undergrad and working for a few years in public accounting before pursuing one of these FP&A-type roles? Obviously going from the minor to the major could put my GPA at risk and it will be much harder to maintain a high GPA by pursuing 2 majors. Do you need a strong accounting background for these types of roles? Can you achieve these roles right out of college with just a finance degree?

Does anyone have advice or insights for me? Is "just" a finance major enough in 2024? Is the double major worth it if it jeopardizes a high GPA? Should I focus solely on accounting and drop the finance major altogether?
