I currently work at one of the big ratings companies (not in the ratings department) and am halfway through my MBA. I work 35-40 hrs a week and TC is about 80-85k depending on bonus. My potential upcoming decision once done with MBA:
Transfer internally to ratings as a senior analyst (expected TC is about 135k). I'm told this is a very doable option.
Management Consulting at a boutique firm that regularly hires MBAs from my program and I have alumni connections with (expected TC around 150k)
I like working at my current company and the internal transfer would be a decent bump in pay with slightly more working hours but based on what I'm told, the WLB is not bad.
MC will be an even bigger bump but obviously comes with the longer hours and travel requirements. It's also not a name-brand firm.
I'm leaning towards the internal transfer to ratings since it's lower risk and is potentially a long-term fit in itself, but MC seems like it would pay off better in the long run, even if it meant a tougher WLB in the short term.
Anyone had a similar decision to make? Thoughts? I'm in a MCOL city, 6yoe.
