Criminal history disqualification for finance career?
Post Body

Hey everyone, I recently got hired for an assistant job with a local financial firm. I have already had a FINRA background check conducted for a previous job, and know that they will report several charges from my past including: 1) Shoplifting (when I was 16) 2) Possession of paraphernalia and 3) Failure to appear. These are all misdemeanor charges and for any other standard background check, they have been expunged and don't exist. I never followed through with the last job to know if I could actually get hired despite the charges. Long story short, they asked me to find arrest records/court documents showing the results of the charges, but after going to many law enforcement agencies, there were no records to be had. So, my question is: will I be able to work in finance despite these charges showing up? Also, I'm considering telling my potential boss about the charges before he does the background check so he's not taken by surprise. What do you think?
