Play Steam version without creating SE account?

Hi I made a post a few weeks back about how when I first tried to play FF7 steam version I was having difficulty with the SquareEnix account and I was told that you no longer need to create that account to play. I just bought the game again for Steam and all I am presented with when launching the game is a request to sign in or create a SquareEnix account.
Any suggestions?
