I think it was 2003 but I had gone to GameStop (EB Games then) with the option of picking up one game and I remember seeing the cover of FFX and thinking "this is the game I want to try" The art style looked so appealing but my sister who was 3 years older than me told my mom it looked too much like an "adult" game and she decided to pick up Kingdom Hearts for me because she said the Disney characters looked cool. So I had the choice between two monumental games and at the time I had no idea but chose Kingdom Hearts because I figured my sister and I could both enjoy it and it ended up being my favorite game series of all time. Years later I finally played and finished FFX and my god it was amazing. I truly think if I played KH1 now, I would not love it like I did then and FFX had a story and gameplay style I do not think my brain dead child self would even enjoy and understand but it is beyond rewarding now. I am starting to play every FF game in order now but I like to think that one decision could've made me not enjoy these two masterpieces.
