I asked my wife about spectating the remake of FF7, and she's apprehensive given the track record of every one seemingly from 8 onwards with endings.

She started watching with X, seemingly a lifetime ago, and has seen x, x-2, 12, part of 13, 15, 16, and FF Chaos Simulator (SoP). I asked about 7 remake and the first thing she did was say "is the ending going to gut punch me again?? I don't want to watch that".

I told her none of the mains die at the end of 7 but one does about 1/2 way through in original and the spoil that in remake pt1 and tease events may be different this time as you challenge fate. 7 is my all-time favorite game both for the time it was released and the world/characters we got from it.

So the big question: would you say that you feel 7 has a gut-punch ending? Is she right to be apprehensive? Am I too close to this to be objectively suggesting it? Or do you think they will change the remake to drop a new gut punch ending and make a liar of me?

(I know that city if ancients is likely ending of this particular release which would be more of the gut punch ending...but it's not the final chapter and has already been talked about so less surprising)
