Playing Final Fantasy VI in the County Jail

Post Body

So I had to do some time in the Cuyahoga County Jail a few weeks ago. I was shocked to realize that, through Securus Technologies, they issued tablets to the inmates if you applied for one! It took me 2 days to get my tablet. It ran on a VERY restricted version of Android, with only access to certain apps. No YouTube, No social media, and No web browser.

I honestly thought to myself "This thing sucks I'm not gonna use it."; But just as I was about to give up on the thing, I noticed they had a media store with video games, and music to download! I'm very into video games, so the first thing I did was check out their selection of games. That's when I noticed a section on the store labeled "Vintage Classics"; And to my surprise, it had a picture Ho-Oh, Lugia, Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno displayed under the text!!

Then, I tapped the selection and they had a wide variety of GameBoy/GBC/GBA games for purchase! Final Fantasy 1/4/6 GBA, Zelda four swords/Link to The Past, Pokémon G/S/C, the GBA Pokemon titles, Sonic advance 1 and 2 and Many others. I purchased Final Fantasy VI for about 10 bucks after tax (also Pokemon Fire Red, and Harvest Moon FOMT)

After the intial purchase the games would not download the first day, I assumed I had been ripped off, and there was nothing I could do. Then the next day I woke up at 8am, and received my tablet from the corrections officer. The games I purchased began to download !! I thanked my lucky stars and PRAYED that the games actually worked. Next I opened them up and they WORKED ! (the first game I tested was Pokemon. They ran through running through a very limited GBA Emulator for Android.)

So for the next 11 days I spent in Jail, my time consisted of me waking up at 6am for breakfast, receiving my tablet at 8am, and playing GBA games. I didn't get that far on Final Fantasy VI, but on Pokemon I managed to beat the elite four, nearly complete the Sevii islands, and catch the three legendary birds, and MewTwo. I did all of this in a total of about 56 hours I believe. The only times I wasn't playing was when the Corrections Officers took the tablets to charge at 9pm (This is when I did my push ups/crunches and went to bed eager to get my tablet back lol) and when they disabled the tablets at 12:15pm-1:15pm count the inmates. It was definitely surreal to be playing GBA games while incarcerated.

For those that would say I'm making this up, I did time from 5/31/2023 through 6/14/2023 for a nonviolent offense I will not disclose. You can ask me any questions about the tablet or anything if curious. I kind of explained most of the rules, they handed the tablets out at 8:00 am, disabled them from 12:15pm-1:15pm to count inmates, and they took them at 9:00 pm to charge for the next day. But if I missed anything you guys are curious about feel free to ask!

Edit: I said I won't disclose my case on here to avoid breaking any rules, but if you're curious about it PM me I'll gladly explain how I ended up in jail. It's actually pretty funny lol.

Final edit: For Pokemon, and other multiplayer games, All multiplayer functionality was unfortunately disabled! A gang member asked me to trade him my Charizard for some ramen noodles, and we realized there was no option for wireless communication ! ( I assume they disabled this to prevent gambling)
