What time do film crews usually shoot at night?

Post Body
We have a film crew in town today and when I popped to the shop I saw they have cordoned off a section of the car park just round the corner from me. When I was there earlier the equipment tent was empty and the lights were folded down next to a truck, no booms or anything unloaded so I assume they won't be shooting for a little while as they need to set up. I'm really curious how it's all done and would like to go and watch for a bit, (from a distance, don't worry I don't intend on disturbing them) is there a usual time film crews start shooting a night scene? (There's a major road next to the car park, don't know if that affects what time they shoot)
