!!!Warning: Lightyear spoilers!!!

OK so I am new to this sub Reddit and I have never come up with a theory of my own before so I’m kind of new to this so I’ll just get to the point.

I think Lightyear takes place after humanity recovers from the wasteland earth became in Wall-E from over pollution. Eventually, they leave in a new and improved ship, the Turnip, because they couldn’t fully repair Earth. I got 3 scenes that loosely support my theory but that’s why I’m posting it here to see if Filmtheory and all of y’all can either support or debunk it.

1 - the Meat Sandwiches

I just got done seeing buzz Lightyear and something odd stuck out to me about one of the scenes halfway through the movie, when Buzz and his team go to a mining facility for a part they need to repair the ship they stop to have a snack break from a old vending machine. Now I figured it would just be a throwaway scene of that one guy wanting to get a snack before they continue their journey. That’s when they open up packets of Meat Sandwiches. And that stuck out to as odd since even Buzz finds it as a weird. What if the meat is people? For a Wall-E theory it’s stated that the milkshakes are actually flavored human remains since the cruse ship was never meant to last so long without resupply from Earth. What if that’s the case with Buzz? The planet the movie takes place on was not supposed to be their final destination, they got stranded. So what’s something you’d expect them to do if they were planning on staying? Planting vegetables and fruit from their rations from Earth since they’d need a source of reliable food. But as shown in the sandwiches they don’t have wheat for bread. So what if they started doing the same thing they did hundreds of years before to survive? It could be alien meat, but we don’t know if the plants or animals are edible, only that the air is breathable.

2 - The AI Why do the smaller robots for regular tasks have such advance AI but not the autopilots? It’s because they don’t want another situation like in Wall-E where a smart AI has access to a ship. In Lightyear Sox develops as the story progresses like Eve did but the ship AI in Lightyear from Zergs ship seems to have stayed the same as it was so many years ago.

3 - The Distress Beacon Another thing that was odd to me is that there are no intelligent life on the planet they detected a beacon, and there were no intelligent alien races with the humans and robots from the Turnip. So who or what would they expect to get a signal from? The other cruise ships from Wall-E that didn’t return to Earth but instead found new livable planets to call home.

Now the counter I have to my theory: Film within a Film

Lightyear is the Movie Andy saw in Toy Story 1 that made him want to get toy Buzz so it’s not real in the toy story universe which Filmtheory connected to Wall-E from Buy-n-Large since it’s a company shown in the background of both movies. But what I’d Buy-n-Large in Walll-E is just product placement from the real company for a apocalyptic movie(Wall-E)

I can’t type more since my phone is bugging out from typing so much but let me know what y’all think cause I believe it’s a fun little theory regardless.

Enjoy!
