TL:DR- Chinese theatre in LA is a total ripoff for Imax/ premium experience. How was Oppenheimer on Irvine/Universal City?
Edit: attached a pic for reference, don't think it was dirt/cobweb due to the "scratch" being in the same spot. but very very noticeable throughout, going in an out of scenes, and another spot that I can remember where
Of course, I had to watch Oppenhaimer's âAs Nolan Intendedâ so looked for tix to the 70mm Imax version as my lord and savior instructed me, which I had to book a month in advance as all the good seats were sold out the entire first 3 weeks of playing (including F Wednsday 10AM morning screenings wtf?!) , in the only 3 threats that show this version in LA area - Universal city, Chinese theatre and Irvine.
yesterday I finally saw it and I was so angry, the damn screen kept having 2-3 specific spots where some lines were extremely visible throughout the film, based on texture I assume it was in the film version itself (too worn out after 3 weeks?) but the main issue was the ridiculous sound system -
I know that Nolam kinda sucks when it comes to sound editing his dialogue scenes properly, but this time he wasnât the problem. The Chinese theatre speakers sounded like an iPhone speaker, trying to play the heavy Orcastra soundtrack and the WHAAAAMS that Nolan is known for, and it just hurt my ears, as if the mid and high were amped up, Bass was low, and volume all the way up to burn the speakers - and I mean that in the worst way possible.
just for comparison, I saw the last Dr. Strange in a non-chain super old theatre somewhere and it wasnât much- but at least it was 5$! and no, not on a Tuesday.
I just had to vent, so please save yourself the trouble and money and watch any movie anywhere else. Wondering how peopleâs experiences were in Irvine/ Universal city if anyone saw it there.
