I think we should give them some more appreciation because they deserve it. Seriously though, I don’t think the journalists and podcasters get enough credit. They do a lot of hard work to keep up with the sport, and I don’t know about you guys, but without them I wouldn’t be as up to date with the sport, let alone care as much. So , giving a shoutout to :
Phil Hersh- for being the US journalist on figure skating for at least the last 3 decades and for trying to continue to find stories that make the sport interesting to the US audience - Christine Brennan- for not being afraid to put stories out there that need to be told, especially when the subject matter is really uncomfortable - Paula and Judith at Golden Skate - for their detailed post-competition recaps and entertaining skater interviews - Maya B- for her commitment to keeping up with figure skating in Russia and for trying to inform a worldwide audience of what is going on with the sport over there and for self-translating her own articles from Russian to English - Jackie Wong- for accurate play-by-play of all the major competitions, and for showing love to chicken tenders everywhere
Skatingscores.com- for single-handedly managing to make the judging protocols make sense
And all the podcasts- for all opinions and all the tea and for trying to find a way to make the sport interesting.
If there's anyone I forgot that you think is also deserving of a mention, please post in the comments
