Using variables to create a multi brand design system

Post Body

Hey folks, Iโ€™m interested in building a multi brand design system. What do I mean by that?

Itโ€™s an idea so far. Having a parent design system which holds frequently used components to share with other design systems in the company. Also this should be hosting a color system and a variety of typographic foundations like type scales and text transforms or decorations.

The child systems should represent a brand and here we can create the digital product of the brand. In here we also need variables but here we need to match the brands design decisions. But we can benefit from generic variables and import them from the parent system.

What do you folks think of this idea? Is it possible to override variables in any way so far? And the most interesting question is, can we come up with a solution which fulfills all the needs? And how to start?
