This is what was needed : a thorough explanation of the whole ordeal -> The Givers refutes the FIFTY FIFTY copyright controversy and states the "Cupid" copyright was acquired legally | allkpop
In a lenghty statement, The Givers defend the following points :
- Did The Givers purchase the copyright without consulting ATTRAKT?
They claim Cupid (demo) was bought in 2022, with another artist in mind (not under Attrakt, and not Fifty Fifty)
- Does the Korea Music Copyright Association show a majority stake held by CEO Ahn Sung Il (SIAHN) and no stake for the original songwriters?
- Does The Givers retain all profits from the "Cupid" sound source?
They claim Attrakt still earns 50% of the revenues from Cupid : " As illustrated in the table below, the revenue distribution structure for music sources involves approximately 50% for music producers, 30-35% for service providers, 10-11% for copyright holders, and 6% for performers"
If I understand correctly, the whole copyright dispute is for the 10-11% for copyright holders, which The Givers allegedly own 99.5%. Attrakt still has 50% of the revenues as the album producer.
THIS PART HELPS THE GIRLS SO MUCH. Attrakt makes money with Cupid. Back to square one with the financial report.
- Did The Givers falsify the signature of the Swedish composers and alter the stake distribution?
This part is the one I least understand tbh. So I'll let you read it, haha.
Thank you for the summary and keeping us all up to date! Much appreciated :)
