Vanilla vs Mods (PC)

I installed some mods, I'm not really seeing any differences besides the graphics and score logos. NPCs stopped passing back and forth, defenses has gotten better. The only con is that it corrupts my career modes whenever there's an update.
Should I just stick with vanilla?
