Should I be wetting my hair everyday?

Hey guys, I know you shouldn't be washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner every day but what about just wetting it in the shower every day? Is this damaging? When my hair gets wet my hair seems to become oily much faster which I dislike. I was considering only wetting my hair when washing it with shampoo and conditioner but i'm worried my hair will smell in the days between. What do you guys think I should do?
