pricing cabling jobs without losing my shirt
Post Body

An agency emailed me about a posting on WM that he has for $25/hr to run and terminate Cat 6 poe cable for 6 bank branches in Utah. Tech is to provide materials. 30 day terms. Tech is to warranty work for 90 days. I countered at 75/hr, they must spec & cover all materials. I was surprised to get a call saying their offer "is what it is, no counters accepted. Am I interested? Easy money". I countered again at $250/drop so umm, not. I'd be working at a loss. My question: How do you price cable runs when the project requires 72 runs between 100 and 250 ft for example? Is it a mistake to provide materials when the client doesn't specify min requirements? I'm at a loss on how to work out pricing. My experience is 1 run is about $150 with client paying for provided materials (jacks), and can take up to a couple of hours depending on the challenges. Most of what I do is to replace 1 or 2 damaged existing runs or a new home run from the demarc using good quality plenum, but there are more refresh and new construction jobs available. NFWIH am I taking this job but as an exercise how would I price this out?
