Hello, I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was prescribed meds to try to help with my symptoms. I have posted here recently about how I am generally an active outdoorsy person until I have the flare ups which stop me in my tracks for a bit. I used to rock climb but cannot any longer. I have pain from running, hiking, biking- basically the things that make me the most happy. I still try to do them but it's hard when I have a flare up.
Basically what I am saying is that fm keeps me from doing the things I want to do and to the extent I want to do it. However, I know that I am lucky enough to not have it as bad as other people. There have been times though that I didn't even want to walk from the pain. Regardless, I have pain every day but some days are worse than others.
So I saw the Rheumatologist who diagnosed me with fm in the beginning of March. My PCP had a phone appt with me and then transferred me over to my mental health doctor to help me find the right meds and to prescribe them to me. Well I finally just had my appt with the mental health doctor and he is starting me on a low dosage starting at gabapentin 100 mg/day. I just looked it up and it appears that this dosage might be too low for people with fibromyalgia from what I am reading. They mailed the meds and I won't get them until probably Friday to start seeing if they work. He told me I can just increase my dosage if the 100mg doesn't work and we will just discuss it when I am ready for another refill. Does this seem too low of a dosage? I have much less pain than many people with fibromyalgia but I am looking for advice on this situation.
Side note: It seemed like gabapentin would be a good start for me. I wanted to avoid taking some of the meds that also treat depression because I have bipolar type 2 and I already take meds for that so gabapentin seemed like a good place to start.
