Inspired by another's post in r/askfeminists, I was reminded about an incident which occurred to me on the way back from Hungary last year.
I (a man) was randomly selected for security screening and got a pat-down from the male security guard. It was fairly standard, except as he moved around me he left one hand cupping my crotch and very obviously gave me a fondle. It felt invasive and unwanted, though thankfully brief.
What is interesting about this (and what makes it a feminist issue) is that in this environment, I (the foreigner)
Lacked the language skills to object
Faced the social pressure of not wanting to hold up the line
Didn't want to challenge the authority of notoriously belligerent airport staff in a foreign country
Didn't really know how to respond at all
I haven't flown since but expect to do so shortly, and the incident has sprung forth relatively unbidden, now associated with airport screening. Not a major trauma in my life (clearly) but certainly an annoying buzzard of a thought.
So my question, fellow feminists, is what can I do in the future. What should I do in the future to help make a change in society to prevent this kind of thing in the future? Bear in mind as a man rejecting homosexual contact (I'm kind of bi anyway but that's neither here nor there) I can probably object with less social pressure than many women face.
