Saw The Wild Robot and was... unsettled? (Spoilers I guess)
Post Body

Curious if anyone else had a similar experience watching this movie, (I didn't read the book, just saw the movie). But as the movie progressed, all I could see was this depiction of motherhood that was... disappointing? I guess it could be considered accurate for many, and I'm sure it resonates with many women as validating, but I felt like it was glorifying immense self-sacrifice to the point of quite literal total shutdown. It felt very "giving tree," giving everything she had and more for the thankless task of protecting and caring and nurturing everybody else while she's only destructed in return.

I know the whole point is that she is literally this foreign, robotic, service object, as mothers are often seen by society, but it didn't seem to go against that; It just kept hammering down that she needed to do more and more to earn acceptance and accomplish adequate performance... but she didn't even get that acceptance herself; she needed a male character to convince the others that she deserved respect.

Like maybe it was because I had SUCH high hopes for this movie (and also did not read the book), but this really bothered me for a movie that is being regarded SO highly.
