How did this norm come to be in the first place? I see a lot of art with nudity depicted, including female nipples, but when I see bare breasts in anime, the nipples are often missing. But manga often shows nipples, like In Dragon Ball and Inuyasha, to name a couple. What is so “inappropriate” about a nipple? They’re not there for sexual purposes, only to feed babies. But regardless, models often have to do a hand bra pose to conceal their nipples on Instagram. And men also have nipples, just not for feeding young. If they are (mostly) the same body part, why does only one gender have freedom to show their fully bare chests in public? Is feeding a baby controversial or what? I personally, from an aesthetic perspective, don’t see female nipples as different from a man’s at all, especially not if they (both the pairs of nipples and the pairs of breasts) are the same size and depicted in the same context. I am even possibly considering a tattoo with such content, because I feel it’s really beautiful, not because I want to be sexy or whatever.
