As I sit in the waiting room, I fiddle with my tie and brush off my lapel. I’ve been waiting for this day all summer. A recent college grad, I spent my entire senior year networking, applying, and interviewing for jobs. It took a while before I heard anything back, but after a lot of waiting, I finally heard back from your office. Someone in your inner circle recommended me, and you offered me a position. I inquired about the role, but your office insisted I must come in for an initial screening before learning anything more. How could I say no? You’re the leading businesswomen in the local area. You are sharp, ruthless, powerful, and – most importantly – disgustingly rich. 

It didn’t take me long to agree to come in for an interview. For as long as I could remember, I’ve wanted to become a successful businessman. Sure, it isn’t ideal to be learning under a woman, but I will take what I can get. I will do anything to get ahead, to make a name for myself.

“She’ll see you now.” My thoughts are interrupted by the receptionist standing in front of me. She snaps in front of my face. “Hello? I said she’s ready for you.” I’m taken aback by the sass, but I stand up, running my hands nervously along my pants. I’m led to your office door.

“Good luck,” the receptionist says. “You’ll need it.” She rounds the corner leaving me alone in front of a pair of large wooden doors. I gulp. Nothing happens. Then the doors groan openly slowly, and I step inside. You’re sitting with your back to me holding a piece a paper. A single light shines brightly on a spot of floor in front of your desk; the rest of the room is shrouded in shadow.

“So, Joseph.” You begin. “You’re willing to do anything to get ahead?”

Hi there! Thank you for reading this prompt. My character is an over-eager young college grad, very naïve, and willing to do anything to get ahead in a cutthroat industry. I imagine your character would be the older, domineering boss who always gets what she wants. I struggle with authority – having an infamous chip on my shoulder – but will I break under your will? I imagine my character resisting your power at first before submitting and being totally under your control.
