Emotional support submissiveness?

Hey, im a new and aspiring sub and i have an idea of the kind of sub i want to be but am a little unsure if some of the things i want fits in with being a submissive. Among others I feel a calling towards service submission and am really attracted to the idea of serving a lady. In addition to domestic and sexual service i would want to also serve my lady emotionally. Essentially things like listening to her venting about her problems, being a shoulder to cry on, engouraging her and helping her achieve her goals as a kind of emotional support puppy.

I have been told these actions are typically more suited towards care giving dominants such as mommy/daddy doms rather than subs and that a domme would have to make herself emotionally vulnerable to confide in her sub like this, which some consider to be submissive behavior. I personally disagree that its an inherently submissive act, it is in my opinion more of a sign of trust and maturity to be open with your emotions and confiding in your loved ones. Though i would like to hear different opinions and am wondering if there are any here with experience in something similar to what ive described who might give some insight.
