Last time I posted here, I was going to a cosmetic derm for the first time to ask yet again for a prescription besides spiro. Over the past 10 years multiple doctors have denied this (PCPs and endocrinologists in greater Boston). I was pleasantly surprised— all I had to do was say I didn’t feel like using topical min, she prescribed me oral min and gave me a follow up appointment with their hair expert doctor who apparently DOES prescribe finasteride!? She told me the hair doctor has lots of female patients on it!!
I’m going to take this with a grain of salt because it’ll be a different doctor, and maybe all those female patients are post-menopausal (their website says they only prescribe it to post-menopausal females), but this doctor didn’t seem to think it was a big deal at all. She just said “well you’re not trying to have kids so why would it matter?”
I’m a little nervous to start oral min because I’m already a pretty hairy chick, I have very dark hair and very fair skin so every tiny hair shows up, but will just try it for 2 months and see what happens! So to anyone who has had this struggle give a cosmetic derm a shot, it was also covered by my insurance!!
