I am a 60 year old female when I was at the age of 19 I got arrested for armed robbery ( life) 1ct. Conspiracy to commit armed robbery 1ct. I was the driver in a car with my boyfriend and they said oh let's go get something to eat mind you he always took my car at night. He would take my car and drop me off at my parents! After we were done skating they said let's go to Subway him and his friend and get something to eat because he couldn't keep my car that night and I had to go drop him off so I said okay. Anyway make a long story short his friend got out the car ask this what we wanted to eat and then went into the store a few minutes later someone is running at my car with a shotgun it's the police my boyfriend says take off take off I take off. I have no clue what's going on. In Florida you get charged the same as the person who committed the crime. So I ended up with those charges the conspiracy to commit armed robbery was dropped. And not knowing things and coming from the country my mom said tell the truth so I told the truth never been arrested never had parents that have been arrested nothing didn't know anything about the court system so I told the truth of course that got me charged of course. To make a long story short the charge is 39 years old and it is being pulled on my background check buy a company called CHECKR. I did one year's house arrest in one years probation in this report it says I went to prison this is a clearing house which collects data for background checks and they go back as far as they want except for the states that limit how far they can go back. I could not get hired for Lyft, Door dash, and a few other gig working things. I had been working for a company that's called instawork doing gig work since 2019 and they just had me do a new background check and now they won't let me work because that company pulled those records up they're 39 years old never been arrested since. I am trying to figure out how to get this company gone cuz it's ruining people's lives people who made mistakes and didn't even know they were making mistakes suffer for it and it's already hard at 62 get a job and survive now they pulling stuff from 40 years ago it's just crazy. Mostly I just say no and people haven't pulled it up but this company does. For reference I live in Nevada now Las Vegas Nevada I applied at Walmart and the company they used pulled those charges up. this is getting a little bit ridiculous and out of hand because just because you're a felon does not mean you're a bad person doesn't mean you don't have good worth ethics every job I've ever had I've always rated highly and gotten raises and and these good workers they judge you by stars and all kinds of different things but the sucky part about it is it's 39 years old! Something has to be done you shouldn't have to pay for something for the rest of your life especially something that you really didn't have no clue that it was going on. And just so you understand where I'm coming from on those nights that he was allowed to take my car to go home because he lived across the bay and I didn't want to drive there and have to drive all the way back they had been using my car to Rob Subway sandwich shops!! Oh and here's another kicker my boyfriend took it to court met a new girl and she testified on the stand that he was with her and he walked away Scott free no charges on his record no nothing. And I end up with a armed robbery charge!
