Extremely Dissapointed in myself
Post Body

In 2018 I was released from prison into a halfway house. I was able to go to a temp agency and got a job in a warehouse. I've been there for 5 years and was able to work my way up to a lead position. I was making decent money and I loved my job and the people. I started smoking weed once I was off parole and last week I ended up damaging some racking while I was driving a forklift. They ended up drug testing me and I came up positive for THC. Because of this I was let go. I'm so disappointed in myself for allowing this to happen. I've never been high at work and would only do it at home. I thought this was a responsible way to use it. I'm having a hard time finding a new job because of my criminal background. I have an attempted burglary on my record. I've been to about 7 interviews and I was accepted 2 times but had the offer rescinded because my background was unsatisfactory. I applied at a local temp agency but I will only be getting $18.50 per hour so I'm taking a pretty massive L here. Things were going good for me for so long and I was beginning to think that my life would finally be ok. I'm hoping things work out and I just wanted to vent a little. If anyone has any advice for getting jobs I would also appreciate it.

Update: As of today 02/16/24 I was officially hired on at another company I will be starting my first day next week. I will be making less ($21 per hour) but overall I'm pretty happy with this pay. To anyone who is reading this and gets into a similar situation just remember to stay strong, lock in and move forward. I was in a dark place mentally and i spent the last 2 days just laying in my bed and sending out applications. I got a call today from a company that I have previously interviewed for that said my background check passed. I was surprised because my felony involves burglary and I have previous larceny misdemeanors. When I was in my drug addiction I made money through stealing and Identity theft. Maybe they are looking for violent or sex offenses or maybe they didnt even really do a background check. Either way it works for me. I applied to 80 companies I heard back from about 10 I had 2 phone interviews and 3 in person. I was offered a position at 2 jobs but offer was rescinded because my background did not pass. Today I received the offer because my background was "satisfactory". The odds are not good, but it is possible. I now plan to work at this company for the next 2 years or so until I can get my record sealed. By then I should be finished with college( I am in school for computer science). I then hope to be able to get a "real" job. I thought I was fucked, but now I see that the situation could be a blessing in disguise. You never know what good can come from a change like this.

For future reference, refuse drug tests if you know you will fail. The failed drug test could follow you wherever you go, depending on if they reported it. Were you sent to a lab? Or drug tested in house?
