How do you navigate conversations about personal life and your crime
Post Body

For context, at 14 I was sentenced to juvenile life for killing my mom’s abusive boyfriend after he hurt my sister (I got sentenced because I waited at his house for a long time and when he arrived I killed him, thus making it pre-meditated since I had ample time to take other actions) and spent 2 years in a juvenile detention center and the rest in a high-security placement facility.

Now when I have conversations with new people, they’ll go into their life story including adolescence and I just tell them “my teens were rough. I don’t want to talk about it” which works, but some people are becoming close friends and I feel like after sometime if I don’t say anything, they’ll find out and cut me off.

Should I just be straight up and just have the conversation? I did with my current gf, so I guess I could just do that.
