California felon looking for work, afraid to be honest

Post Body

It's been about 12 years since I have been incarcerated. I'm filling out applications and I'm being asked if I have any misdemeanors or felonies. Didn't California outlaw that? Anyways I said that I did not have any criminal history. When they do my fingerprints how far back will it go? If my criminal history shows up they will certainly not hire me because I lied. Not sure if I should or just be honest with people or not.
My questions are How far back will the fingerprinting look? What have you done as far as answering the felon question or being honest / dishonest with potential employers?
