Howdy, as the title says, I got hired on as a FT, non-DOT Courier about a month ago. Honestly, coming from sitting my fat ass in an office chair, mucking about with financial spread-sheets, this is a load off my mind. (I'm 40, after 10 years of office-management shit, I'm just fucking done being a manager - suppose it's some sort of mid-life crisis thing)
My boss didn't have much of a specific plan for his new-hires, so I end up working this one half-rural, half-suburban route 4-days a week, and on Mondays I just do random "relief" shit for other routes. My 4-day, route typically only has about 40-50 stops and a handful of pick-ups, so after I get out of the terminal about 8:45 I'm usually done around 2:30 or so - unless I'm back-tracking to mop-up holes because my P1s/2s were all over the damned place.
Only downside is, because we have such a tiny-ass terminal, I can't really load/scan my own truck during sort, because all the spots are taken-up by old-timers...basically I end up doing package-handling shit until sort is done, scanning my packages, which have been stacked by the belt, then waiting for other drivers to get out of the building and make room, so I have room to drive whatever jacked-up van my boss has given me to my spot to load. I tried a few times just tossing the packages in a wheeled-bin, but because I'd usually have to make 2-3 trips, it was quicker to just wait.
Would be nice to have a dedicated spot, and a truck that isn't a jacked-up rental though.
Oh well, at least I've lost about 8 lbs. so far.
