Perception of "value" in relationships is a super interesting area that I've been meaning to look at for a while now. This survey study asked three questions:
- "Heterosexual dating is typically more about..." (Men proving themselves to women) (Women proving themselves to men) (Other / don't know)
- "The average man is good enough for a relationship with most women" (agree or disagree, scale of 0 to 10)
- "The average woman is good enough for a relationship with most men" (agree or disagree, scale of 0 to 10)
A significant proportion of people did not indicate a gender difference (one third of respondents selected "other / don't know" in the first question, and one half of respondents gave the same score to men and women in the second and third questions). But among those who did indicate a difference, the pattern was quite clear (men having to prove themselves, men having less "value").
Thoughts on the results? Including the differences and similarities in responses between men and women.
Does anyone have any suggestions or requests for questions or topics in future survey studies that they'd like to share?
