[META] We should remember guideline #1

I'm not sure if I'm, quote unquote, "allowed" to make a meta post like this, but anyway..

I love this sub and the discussions that are to be had here, however sometimes it seems like guideline #1 - don't downvote - is forgotten a bit too fast at times. I realise it's a natural human reaction to do so in touchy debates/topics like these, so to avoid that I was wondering - isn't it simply possible to remove downvoting, as is the case in some other subs? After all the strength of this sub lies in its openess to listen to all sides unequivocally.

Do you guys think this could be beneficial?
