Defining, Demonstrating, & Understanding Male Disposability

Here's a write-up I did on male disposability, which will hopefully serve as a good introduction to the concept. Some of the examples are the same as in the Reference Book of Men's Issues that I made almost two years ago, but there are also new examples and a lot more points are addressed.

I'm interested of course in any feedback and discussion, but I'll ask these questions to start off.

  1. Most/all of my examples were about physical well-being. What do you think of the idea that we take a similar approach to mental well-being? Do you have any examples that illustrate this? (I might add a section on that, and use some of the examples)

  2. How do you think male disposability compares to disposability in other areas, like race, class, and nationality?

  3. What do you think about the four plausible factors behind male disposability that I mentioned? (physical strength differences, men being on average more willing to physically harm sexual rivals for evolutionary reasons, neoteny, and women being the bottle-neck in reproduction) Are there others I missed?

  4. What are your thoughts on my comments on male disposability and feminism? Do you know of any interesting examples of feminists dealing with male disposability, either in a good way or a bad way?

  5. What are your thoughts on female disposability? Are there any areas in our culture where, despite the overall trend of male disposability, in these particular areas or contexts we're more concerned with the safety and well-being of men than women? Also, are there cultures you know of (past or present) that have the overall trend of female disposability?

(Note especially for the last question that I'm looking at male disposability in terms of caring about harm happening, rather than how much harm happens. These are related but not the same thing! Feel free to argue against seeing disposability in that way if you want.)
